What are the rules on home care aide’s meal breaks?

Home Care Aides must be allowed to an uninterrupted meal break of not more than 30 minutes, whenever practical, for performing a five-hour duty. They are not allowed to leave the premises of their client’s residence for their meal break.

What is included in the home care aide’s housekeeping tasks?

Home Care Aides are expected to perform “light” housekeeping tasks that may include: cleaning the bedroom and bathroom of the client, dusting of furniture, trash disposal, light laundry, washing the dishes used by the clients.

Under the law on personal attendants, housekeeping duties of home care aides must attribute to 20% of the scheduled working hours.

But housekeeping is part of a home care aide’s job right?

Home Care Aides are not housekeepers. Their primary responsibility is to provide quality care that will contribute to the well-being of the client. Performing housekeeping tasks are secondary duties to our home care aides.
